A YOUTH has appeared before magistrates charged with robbing a motorist who had stopped at a pedestrian crossing.
The 17-year-old, from east York, is accused of punching the driver, who was a student also aged 17, and stealing his £200 mobile phone at about 10.30pm on Tuesday near Fulford Road Police Station.
He is also charged with stealing clothing worth £66 from a sports shop on the same day.
York magistrates released the defendant on bail, with conditions including a 14-hour nightly curfew, attending an intensive supervision and surveillance programme organised by York youth offending team and having no contact with the alleged victim.
He will next appear before York Youth Court on May 7.
