CHANNEL 4's Time Team have discovered evidence of the medieval village of Henderskelfe.
The team, which includes Blackadder actor Tony Robinson, have spent the last few days digging up lawns at Castle Howard in an attempt to uncover evidence of the ancient site.
A spokeswoman for Castle Howard said: "They have found evidence of the village and of the church which was there.
"They have also uncovered interesting bits of pottery, it has been fascinating having them around.
"They have finished filming and have been spending most of the morning putting the lawns back."
The team were there at the invitation of the estate's head of visitor services, Richard Kemp, a former director of the Jorvik Viking Centre, in York.
