EXOTIC flowers and fragrant blooms await visitors to one of Yorkshire's biggest horticultural events of the year.
The four-day Harrogate Spring Flower Show opens today at the Great Yorkshire Showground.
The opening day got off to a bright and sunny start, and a run of dry weather has ensured that the event area is in great condition, with not a trace of mud or a puddle in sight. But forecasters predict a mixed spell of sun, cloud and showers over the weekend, with strengthening winds.
The North of England Horticultural Society, which organises the show, has already revealed the names of some exotic varieties that will headline the event. These include a new, pink variety of auricula called taffeta, a new pleonie seedling, named Ruby Wedding, and new twists on the alpine gardener's favourite, the lewisia.
Gates open at 9.30am each day and close at 5.30pm, with the exception of Sunday.
