ANGLERS fishing from pegs on Cyprio Lake had the best catches at Carpvale as the warmer weather saw the bigger carp starting to move.
Mick Laverack led the 40-strong field from peg 15, using long at 16 metres with corn and meat. His net of 50lb 12oz contained only a dozen fish, his best mirror just topping double figures.
Terry Carlton (Acomb Tackle) was at recent 'form' peg 17, where he switched between ten metres with chopped worm and 16 metres with corn. His worm-line yielded half a dozen slabs, plus the three carp across gave him 47lb 4oz.
Others: Chris Wildes (Armley Angling) 27-4-0; Steve Willens (Darlington Angling Centre) 26-2-0; Brian Husthwaite (Armley Angling) 24-8-0; Dave Wright (Armley Angling) 21-2-0.
It was the turn of Goldrush to dominate the 46-peg match at the Willows, where Andy Barker (GTI Walton) opened a profitable weekend from peg 41. Alternating pellet and corn he took a mixed net of carp, tench and ide to a pound for 28lb 8oz.
John Cyrowski (Armley Angling) was at peg 50 on the same lake and chose to fish maggot over pellet for carp and chub scaling 20lb 4oz.
Top at Ridge Pool was Dennis Geldard (Boston Spa). He caught 17-8-0 of carp and tench to pole and caster from peg 24.
Others: Phil Austin (Armley Angling) 17-7-0; Jim Carter (Selby) 16-8-0; James Clay (Otley) 16-1-0.
In-form Dean Smith (Van den Eynde Goole) won the 40-entry midweek event from fancied peg 22 on Maple Lake. Fishing pole and pellet tight to the island at 13 metres his 30lb 8oz of pasty carp was just too good for the rest, even John Allerton (Tricast Whizzo). He had to settle for second place with his level 26lb taken on pole and maggot over pellet from peg 11.
Others: Rab Ogilvie (Oaks) 23-9-0; Dave Collier (Union) 22-0-0; Nigel Johnson (Cleveland Angling Centre) 21-9-0; Roger Holmes (MAP Elton) 20-1-0.
The 51-entry open match on both ponds at Huby's Oaktree Complex on Sunday saw the usual brisk small fish action.
John Merritt (Huby) led from peg 16, where he fished pole and pellet down the edge for a 39lb 8oz mixed bag of small carp, tench and ide.
Stuart Whitwham (Tricast Calder) was at peg 7, where he fished caster at four metres for a mainly silver fish net of 38lb 8oz.
Others: Steve Savage (Leeds) 35-0-0; Graham Skirrey (Chester le Street) 34-0-0.
The 'form' peg 21 was best again in the 30-peg match at Raker Lakes, where Norman Dixon (Anglers Corner) topped the sell-out on Horseshoe Lake.
Fishing tight to the far bank at 16 metres he offered a large piece of punch bread flake which the carp found to their taste. He bagged fish to 4lb in his winning haul of 54lb 6oz.
The end peg 30 scored for Dave Geldart (Boston Spa). He fished at just four metres tight to the corner trees on his own bank. Alternating caster and corn he whipped out a level 44lb of pastie carp to 1lb.
Others: Byron Dell (Normark) 43-4-0; Jack Ferguson (Preston Innovations) 17-14-0; Wayne Nolan (Leeds Juniors) 17-2-0.
Ian Melton (Van den Eynde Goole) won the 30-peg Selby Open match on Selby Canal at Burn with a fine roach bag of 10lb 13oz. Drawn at peg 37 he tackled the far bank reeds with pole, squatt and pinkie.
At the next peg Andy Harker (Van den Eynde Goole) had a similar bag of 7lb 6oz.
Others: George Colbran (Team Ace Sarfix) 5-11-0; Alan Barker (Castleford) 5-10-8; Kelvin Weatherall (Selby) 5-2-0; Brian Vasey (Leeds) 4-13-0.
