I appeal for help to protect Bridlington from the destructive intent of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and speculators.
Readers may have heard about the proposed marina for this town. What you will not have been told about is the housing estate equivalent to 19 football fields on the south shore beach, stretching from the harbour past the Spa Theatre to the lifeboat slipway.
It involves the destruction of the boating pool and the children's rides and the threat to the structure of the Spa building through steel piling for foundations for the sea front beach estate.
If that isn't enough, the council intends to fill in a large part of the present harbour for development. It has already been said by a proposer for the marina that berth owners of boats should have priority parking over others and that it doesn't matter about the loss of beach because there is plenty more. It just means locals and holiday folk will have to walk a bit further.
I, along with others, including the harbour masters are fighting the council and its backers at a public inquiry in Bridlington.
If you care about this write to Michael Ellison, c/o Paul Burkinshaw, Inquiry Programme Officer, Bridlington Town Hall, Bridlington YO16 4LP.
