HARROGATE Town boss John Reed admitted the only entertainment stemming from Saturday's dour draw with Witton Albion were the celebrations afterwards.

The goalless stalemate, dull though it was, provided runaway leaders Town with the single point they needed to secure the UniBond League division one title and complete a trophy double just three days after they lifted the West Riding CFA Cup.

Reed told the Evening Press: "It was an appalling game but at the end of the day we've won the championship.

"It was windy and it was a bumpy pitch and, yes, it was horrible to watch with the two teams serving up little football. I can't remember a real goal-mouth chance for either team.

"But on 90 minutes it certainly wasn't dour."

The Wetherby Roaders will be presented with the trophy before the home game with North Ferriby on Thursday.

Reed added: "For the team to achieve a league and cup double is fantastic. If someone had said at the start of the season that they'd do that, you would have laughed.

"What they've done is outstanding and I have to applaud every one of the players."

Northern Counties East League premier division big-guns beat Pickering Town 2-0 with goals by Steve Johnson and veteran Mark Godber, while Harrogate Railway crashed to a shock 2-0 home defeat to Glasshoughton Welfare, Dave Dickinson getting the goals either side of half-time.

Selby Town remain in seventh place in the table after a 2-0 win at Glapwell.

Dexter Tucker returned to action after a long injury lay-off and gave the Robins a 1-0 lead at the interval, and Ryan Carmody netted in the second half to seal the game.

Goole's good recent defensive record was ended by a 5-1 thumping against Hallam, Matt Eddison getting a last-minute consolation.

Tadcaster Albion enjoyed a good 3-1 win over Louth United to move further away from trouble in NCEL division one, Kevin Duckworth and Steve Batley being on the scoresheet.

Nestle Rowntree went nap as they won an eight-goal thriller away to Armley Athletic in the West Yorkshire League premier division - despite being a man down.

Injuries and unavailability meant 'Trees only travelled with ten men, but they came from 2-1 down at half-time to pull level at 3-3 and then grabbed two late goals to steal the points.

Steve Ward (2), Brent Terry, Alex Dewhirst and Lee Bond netted.

Knaresborough Town lost 2-1 at home to Pontefract Sports and Social.

James Wright grabbed a hat-trick as Tadcaster Magnet Sports won 3-1 at Rothwell Athletic to stay top of WYL division one.

West Riding won the Northern Counties Youth Cup final with a 2-0 victory over North Riding at Woodlesford.
