SUNDAY showers stopped just in time for a procession of thousands of Scouts through the heart of York to celebrate St George's Day.
The light rain had not dampened the spirits of an estimated 2,000 Scout Association members, who marched from Clifford's Tower to a service at York Minster.
The colourful procession was led by the 1st Huntingdon All Saints' Scout Band, and a flag bearer carrying St George's Cross.
Crowds of shoppers stood and watched as the noisy spectacle wound its way through Coppergate, Parliament Street, Davygate and Blake Street.
Scout Leader Fellowship member John Chapman, 68, who has been involved with the Scouting movement for 40 years, said the annual parade went very smoothly.
He said: "It is a wonderful opportunity for York's thriving Scouting organisations to present themselves to the public.
"All the participants have worked hard to make this a really good day out."
