YORKSHIRE were on course for a comfortable innings victory in their game against Leeds/Bradford Universities at Headingley today.

The students, requiring 220 to make Yorkshire bat again, slumped to 142 for 9 at lunch in their second innings.

They had resumed on 72 for 2 but were soon in trouble against the Yorkshire attack.

The Universities side had made good progress yesterday evening on the back of some por bowling by Gavin Hamilton and Steve Kirby.

Hamilton's agony continued today when he again bowled all over the place, this time from the football end. In two overs he sent down four wides, including three off consecutive deliveries, before being taken out of the attack by acting captain captain Richard Blakey. In all, Hamilton had bowled eight wides and three no-balls in his two spells in the second innings.

There was a happier moment for Hamilton when Harvey Anderson pushed at Richard Dawson and Hamilton flung out his left arm at silly mid-off to hold on to the catch.

Kirby took over from Silverwood, who had bowled tidily, and he quickly got the wicket of Andy Siddall who could not remove his bat in time and played the ball into his off stump.

Marambe looked a class above any of the other University batsmen but at 122 he lost Simon Noach who aimed a drive at Gary Fellows and was caught behind.

That was the first of four wickets for Fellows as the students collapsed - four wickets going without an addition to their score at 129.

The highlight for Yorkshire yesterday had been some explosive batting by Michael Lumb.

Cutting and driving with great power, Lumb blasted a magnificent 121 off a tiring attack, putting on 219 in 39 overs with opener Scott Richardson who was out for the same score.

Yorkshire declared at 384 for 4.
