A HOLIDAY company is planning a 18-hole golf course, gym and tennis courts for Ryedale.
Griffon Forest Ltd wants to build the new facility just off the A64 near Flaxton, less than three miles from the well-established York Club, near Strensall.
The company, which already has 29 holiday cabins at proposed site, has submitted plans to Ryedale District Council.
Peter Hill, acting liaison officer for Griffon, said proposals included a leisure club with a gym, indoor and four outdoor tennis courts, a clubhouse for the course and a restaurant.
Mr Hill said: "We have actually started work on the restaurant part of it because it already has planning permission."
He said he was not concerned about building a course so close to two other established courses.
He said: "We have done extensive market research into the needs of golfers in the York area.
Bosses at nearby clubs, Forest Park, near Stockton-on-Forest, and York Golf Club, near Strensall, say they welcome the new development if it succeeds in introducing more players to the sport.
