Fulford Golf Club's James Mason, who enjoyed a trophy-laden 2001, was quick off the mark for success in the new season.
Mason helped Yorkshire to a 12-6 victory over Lincolnshire in the annual non-league meeting at Elsham.
He won his singles three and two and then partnered Ganton GC's Fraser Kelley to win their foursomes five and four - the biggest margin of victory in the six matches.
JUNIOR pride swelled at Kilnwick Percy GC, where junior captain Tom Rastall led his team to victory to gain the 'Iron' from the club's men's team in the annual singles match-play event.
The pairs betterball strokeplay, played off a full handicap, was won by Rob Davison and Martin Cooper with a nett 57.
TRISH Mitchell won Fulford GC ladies' section's April medal with a best gross score of 68. She and Dot Elliott, Liz Jones and Ann Robinson qualified for the next stage of the club championship.
Jean Abbey won the first qualifying round of the Jubilee Bowl with a nett 64 six ahead of Anne Reaston.
FOREST Park GC's new captain Don Hamilton started the new season with his drive-in to lead the way in the April medal won by Richard Cambridge. Mrs Judy Huntley, the new lady captain, led the way in the Spring Trophy won by Mave Wash.
MIKE Dale, Fulford's new captain had a drive-in of 234 yards with the proceeds of a sweep raising £93 for the club's junior section.
