CONGRATULATIONS but also commiserations to former York Wasps star Michael Smith following his Challenge Cup heroics last weekend.
The big Kiwi second row scored a superb try for Castleford in the semi-final clash with Wigan, brushing off three would-be tacklers to stretch out an arm from nowhere and somehow touch down over the whitewash.
He was also named man of the match for his exploits, never taking a backward step and always looking dangerous with ball in hand - something Wasps fans know all about.
However, the Tigers - coached by former York hero Graham Steadman, who was a losing semi-finalist against Wigan during his playing days at Clarence Street - lost the match 20-10, despite being the better team for much of the encounter.
GB centre Gary Connolly broke away to score the decisive try and break the Cas hearts.
Wigan meet St Helens in the final at Murrayfield next weekend after Ian Millward's men produced one of their scintilating big match displays to crush Leeds Rhinos 42-16.
