HARROGATE got their quest for a first Yorkshire Cup success for a decade off at the gallop with a 43-18 success over Huddersfield at Claro Road.
For virtually the first time since back-to-back successes in the early 1990s the club chose to field a strong side in the competition and despite the odd lapse in concentration, which allowed the visitors to notch three tries, the three leagues difference in status showed.
Flanker Steve Hobson crossed for his third try in three games after just four minutes and Chris Horner added a second five minutes later.
Fly-half Lee Cholewa converted the first and then added the extras to a score of his own and, with just a Chris Quinn penalty to show for their efforts, Huddersfield were behind 19-3 at the break.
Harrogate number eight Oliver Cook scored the try of the game with a surging run and was followed over by lock Paul Clark, his first of the season, before prop Adam Blades and wing Jon Bell notched tries for Hudddersfield.
But Harrogate came straight back for Jamie Barker to cross under the posts after some silky running.
Cholewa converted and, although Stephen Lynch replied for Huddersfield, there was still time for the biggest cheer of the night as John Dudley scored his 17th try of the season.
The lock was on the end of a 25-yard rolling maul to give Cholewa an easy conversion which took his season's points tally to just three short of the 300 mark.
A spirited fightback was not quite enough to see Selby through as they lost 20-15 at holders Sandal.
Second row Terry Burton ended a forward drive to put Selby ahead, but Sandal then scored 20 unbroken points through tries by Vince Proctor, being pushed over from a tap penalty, fellow second row James Riley, after a lineout catch and drive, and flanker Jonathan Philips, plus a conversion and penalty by Ben Brindley.
A try by centre Tony Godfrey and a penalty by fly-half Carl Paterson brought Selby back into it but the hosts held on.
Pocklington were no match for Doncaster, who went through with a 58-11 victory.
Pock's only try came from 18-year-old prop Matt Webber, while Dan Clappison kicked two first-half penalties.
