A WHITE knight or a fairy godmother tops the wish list of the York Wasps RL supporters' trust working party.

The fans' group are working hard on producing a business plan to present to the Rugby League Council on May 1 in a bid to get themselves re-instated to the Northern Ford Premiership for this season.

And although the fantastic efforts to raise money have put the club in a more promising position, fans' leader Gary Hall and his fellow working party members would welcome any big investor to add their weight behind them.

"We need a big financial backer really," said Hall. "I haven't enough money myself, nor have the others on the working party.

"We are still looking for what John Stabler classed as a white knight to come in. I don't care whether they're a white knight or a fairy godmother, we'd just like someone to come in.

"If someone came in to work alongside the supporters' trust or they came in and said they would like to buy the club and use the supporters' trust - like John Batchelor (at York City) - then that would be fine.

"I'm optimistic someone will come in once we have got everything in place."

Nevertheless, Hall feels the Wasps are continuing to move in the right direction - with everyone involved hopefully the club will not only return come June 2 but grow from there.

Hall added: "If we were doing this just to survive until the end of the season, it wouldn't be worth the time or effort we've put in.

"We've got to show the RFL that we are looking to the long-term future."

In the meantime, the Wasps players will head to their temporary base of Heworth ARLFC tonight to continue training.

Under the guidance of caretaker coach Stewart Horton, the remaining Wasps players are attempting to keep the momentum going among themselves with twice weekly sessions as they wait to hear news on their possible re-admittance to the NFP.

Horton, who held two 'get together' session at the Huntington Stadium last week, was hoping to see an improved turn out from the existing squad - with amateurs from York Acorn and Heworth also set to turn out.

Those attending tonight's session should turn up at Heworth at 6.30pm for a 6.45pm start.

Anyone who has not already contacted Horton should ring him on (07939) 573911 to let him know of their availability.
