HARDWARE store Stubbs, in Fossgate, York, always enjoyed a reputation for old-fashioned, good quality service before it closed and the business relocated to James Street. Now these traditional business values will be recreated as it is turned into a department store for nostalgic TV hit Heartbeat.
The nails and screws have gone, but the authentic, 19th century fixtures and fittings remain. They lend the Stubbs building a timeless ambience which viewers are sure to recognise. Whatever happens to this landmark - a restaurant and luxury flats have been mentioned - we hope the developers retain all the charm of what was one of York's favourite shops.
