JOHN Batchelor's takeover of York City Football Club was today given a legal seal of approval.

The motor-racing chief was installed as chairman of the Minstermen back in March, but it is only now the actual ownership of the club has been formally transferred.

The news that Mr Batchelor owns 100 per cent of the club follows widespread speculation about the deal between the 43-year-old and previous owners Bootham Crescent Holdings.

Mr Batchelor said today's news marks the end of phase one of the 'transitional period' that has seen former chairman Douglas Craig, and club directors Barry Swallow, Colin Webb and Josh Easby remain on the board of the club.

Today's announcement will not see them cut their ties with the club just yet. Mr Batchelor has said they remain on board for consultation purposes only.

Mr Batchelor: "My immediate plans are to work closely with City of York Council to secure details of the new site, which will have complimentary uses to make it a seven-day-a-week venue and to cement the relationship with partners in that venture.

"As that progresses, we will push the club up through the divisions in much the same way as I have done with York City Racing over the last four years."
