BBC LOOK North presenter Harry Gration joined York City chairman, John Batchelor, and club president, John Greenway MP, as the Minstermen set out their stall in Parliament Street.

Members of the York City Supporters' Trust had a stall outside Marks & Spencer to promote the club.

Harry, a former pupil of St Peter's School, who lives in York, said he tried to get to as many home games as he could among his sport-reporting commitments.

He said he well-remembered his early days at BBC Radio Leeds in the mid-1970s when he covered every York City match, home and away. "With sport in the city struggling, with the sad demise of York Wasps, it's vital that we keep this club going. A new ground is needed and hopefully we can take it forward and get into the second division and maybe the first."

Mr Greenway, who attended Saturday's last home match of the season against Mansfield Town, said: "The momentum has to be kept up over the summer for the start of the new season in August."

Mr Batchelor applauded the work of the trust in supporting the club. "They are a big part of the club and eventually will be a bigger part of it," he said.
