MAJOR roadworks aimed at improving safety started in a York village today.
The main part of the £120,000 scheme in Strensall will see a mini-roundabout built at the junction of Strensall Road, York Road and Ox Carr Lane.
Work is expected to last between six and eight weeks.
Temporary traffic lights will be in place. Ox Carr Lane is expected to close for one week during the works
Ray Chaplin, head of the council's engineering consultancy, said: "Over the years there has been a number of accidents at the busy junction, some of them involving children. However, we have secured government money to introduce a safety scheme in the area and improve safety for all."
