THEY may not offer much protection against the cold, but a new range of bras, knickers and basques saw temperatures rising on the streets of York.

City lingerie shop Temptation, in Grape Lane, decided to take its designer underwear straight to the public by holding a fashion show in front of the city's landmarks. The five models - a combination of friends and relatives of shop staff - bared almost all in the name of publicity.

And they attracted more than their fair share of admiring glances as they paraded around the streets of the city. Lisa Kallagher, whose mother, Margaret, owns the shop and who works there part-time, escorted the shivering group around York.

She said: "We sat them in the shop window for a while and then we took them for a walk around, handing out leaflets and £5-off vouchers.

"There were lots of people asking them to stop, asking if they could have a photograph taken with them, and asking where they got their underwear.

"A crowd of people, couples, and obviously young lads, were following them about. People just didn't know what to say. It was freezing, and the girls had goose bumps everywhere, but they loved it - they felt very liberated."
