A YORK nightspot will hold a charity concert on Monday evening to raise money for the Afghanistan appeal.
Four bands will be playing at Fibbers, in The Stonebow, including Capone, modelled on 1970s and 1980s legends the Jam, and High Sounds, a rock band. The doors will open at 7.30pm and the music will start at 8pm. Tickets are £3 each if bought in advance from www.fibbers.co.uk and £4 on the door.
The event is being organised by teacher Julia Wilkes, who is working with The Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Mary and Jesus, an order of nuns based at Chigwell, Essex, before going to El Salvador to work with children there.
She said: "There didn't seem to be any fundraising for the Afghanistan appeal in the area so I thought something needed to be done.
"There will be a raffle inside, so along with the music, it should be a good night.
"I have always been passionate about voluntary work and this seemed a very worthy cause."
The money raised will go towards basic shelter, food and education for people in Afghanistan.
