Jimmy Turner, whose Inn At The Top got only as far as the first fence in last Saturday's Martell Grand National, will be hoping for better luck at Carlisle tomorrow.
The Helperby trainer saddles Nip On in the Burnswark Handicap Hurdle and I fancy Adie Smith's mount to score.
Nip On returned to action on this course on Easter Monday after an absence of 18 months and ran a cracking race to finish second to Pertino, beaten less than two lengths.
A reproduction of that form tomorrow should see Nip On go one better for his North Yorkshire handler.
Ferdy Murphy can lift the feature race, the £10,000 Colin Parker Memorial Novices' Chase, with Historg.
Although the seven-year-old has had a mixed campaign, he is a useful horse at his best and the drying ground is expected to suit him.
Norton trainer Andy Turnell has good prospects of winning the Sark Novices' Handicap Hurdle with Ello Ollie.
Graham Lee's mount has been in good form lately and looks more at home over hurdles than he did over fences.
My Nap vote goes to Harlov in the Tote Exacta Novices' Handicap Chase.
The gelding, trained by Andrew Partker, won over the same distance of three and a quarter miles on this course a fortnight ago. He has great prospects of producing an encore in the hands of Brian Storey.
At Southwell tomorrow there is a mixed programme of Flat racing on the all-weather surface and on the turf.
Willhewiz showed plenty of dash to finish second on his debut last week and Chris Dwyer's two-year-old can put that experience to good use in the Easthorpe Median Auction Maiden Stakes.
Threat looks the one to be on the Datawatch International Handicap.
Milton Bradley's six-year-old showed signs of a return to form when finishing third at Newcastle recently. Opportunity promises to come knocking for him tomorrow.
The HBLB Handicap over seven furlongs looks a wide open race and Ridgeway Lad, trained by Tim Easterby, should take a hand in the finish.
Although largely disappointing last season, it is significant that Easterby has kept him in training for another campaign.
Easterby can also hit the target with Timing in the Southwell Golf Club Fillies' Handicap.
Robert Winston's mount scored in good style at Catterick two weeks ago and has every chance of defying top weight in this modest event.
- Marienbard, winner of the Merewood Homes Yorkshire Cup last season, is among 38 entries for the Group Two race at York on May 16.
Tomorrow's tips:
Carlisle
2.20 Ello Ollie, 2.50 Historg, 3.20 Nip On, 3.50 Harlov (Nap), 4.20 Superior Weapon, 4.50 Chivvy Charter.
Southwell
1.40 Willhewiz, 2.10 Northern Games, 2.40 Threat, 3.10 Ridgeway Lad, 3.40 Ring of Destiny, 4.10 Hearthstead Pride, 4.40 The Count, 5.10 Timing.
