York RI 'A' chess team finally produced a good result against one of the top teams in the Woodhouse Cup when they drew with Bradford 'A'.
After a season spent thrashing weaker opposition but losing to any half decent team, York RI 'A' finally delivered a performance to be proud of.
There were wins for Jon Griffith, Paul
Hopwood and Steve Huxley and draws from David Adams, Paul Townsend, Tony Slinger and Paul Johnson.
York RI 'C' appear to have blown their chance of promotion from division three after drawing with Doncaster 'B' 4-4. They now have to rely on Doncaster slipping up in their last game.
Ironically this is against York RI 'D', but it
is extremely unlikely the 'D' team will be able to do the 'C' team any favours.
York RI 'C'' team's points came from wins from Jim Shemilt and Neville Pearce and draws from David Findlay, Richard Hardy, Ewen Cameron and John Lafferty.
York RI 'D' team's chances of avoiding the drop improved after defeating bottom team Harrogate 'C' 5-2. There were wins from Herbert Lockwood, Ajuna
Prithiviraj, Rodney Mitchinson, John Goodfellow and one by default, plus a draw from Aaron Barker.
In the York Evening League second division Lady Anne Middleton 2 celebrated winning the division with a resounding win against Conquerors by 4-1.
There were wins from John Knowles, Lee Wilson, Steve Cooper and Andy Wade and a draw between Neville Pearce and John Goodfellow. Richard Hardy won for Conquerors.
