IN response to Jason Brant's letter (March 29), the reason for there being two cycle lanes at the Clifton Moorgate traffic lights is that the 'with traffic' lane caters for cyclists wanting to proceed ahead with traffic.
The 'off road' lane enables left-turning cyclists to bypass the signals entirely, this lane links up with the new cycle lanes further down Water Lane.
The newly-installed combined pedestrian and cycle facility provides a safe means for cyclists (and pedestrians) to move between the new cycle lane network on the east of Water Lane across Water Lane to gain safe access to the cycle network on the Clifton Moor trading estate. Signal timings have been adjusted to minimise delays to traffic.

...YES, others have noticed the unnecessary lane reduction exercise at both Royal York Hotel and at Clifton Moorgate, together with the build out at Cemetery Road and the current one at Huntington Road/Monkgate roundabout. All have resulted in further queues of standing traffic.
Together with the inept placing of bus stops at the most awkward of sites, ie just past roundabouts at junctions etc, driving in the city is a nightmare.
Has anyone in authority also noticed how much congestion buses cause because of the amount of time they are stationary at bus stops? Then there is the question of the breeding speed humps. They appear to be more out of control than Terry Wogan's cones but that's another story.
