FIVE of York RI RUFC's under 15s scored tries as they won 34-19 at Hull.
Due to holidays RI fielded only 12 players. The home team, meanwhile, had 14 players and, unsportingly, insisted on playing their full complement.
Despite their numerical disadvantage, RI turned on the style with the six-man pack providing plenty of possession and the visitors raced into a 17-0 lead after 15 minutes with tries by Daniel Hunt, Elliott Richardson and Ollie Mills, who also kicked a conversion.
Although Hull did score a try before half-time, further touchdowns by Dave West, converted by Mills and Andy Clark, gave RI a 24-5 interval lead.
As the difference in numbers told in the second half, RI had to defend but Tom Heslop scored the best try of the game for RI.
Hull came back into the game scoring tries through Andy Clark and Lee Brown with Chris Wrenwick tagging on the conversions to reduce the arrears to 29-19 with 15 minutes left.
But 12-man RI added a further try through Mark Musgrave to seal victory after the forwards had won yet another ball against the head.
With several players at the U13 Yorkshire Festival, York RI staged a round robin 7s tournament at New Lane.
RI emerged narrow winners as both RI and Beverley 'A' recorded one win and one defeat each.
RI opened with a 45-0 victory over Beverley 'B' but lost their second game by just one try, 30-35, to Beverley 'A'.
Chief try scorers for RI were Will Sharkey, Eric Bollinson, Danny Bates and Stephan Cashmore.
