YORK City striker Lee Nogan is standing on the threshold of a limited members' 100-club.

As City get ready to face crisis-torn Carlisle at Bootham Crescent tonight, the former Welsh international is just one goal away from making it a century of League goals.

It will be a notable landmark for the well-travelled hot-shot, but one he admits he didn't know he was closing in on.

Speaking to the Evening Press, the 32-year-old said: "I know I passed 100 goals in all competitions sometime ago, but I wasn't aware I was on 99 League goals.

"I've never really thought about it but it would be nice to get to 100.

"Hopefully, I can do it before the end of the season. It'll be a nice achievement.

"But I'll not be thinking about it. As soon as I do that then the goals could dry up."

Currently second top scorer with 11 goals, just one behind 12-goal Michael Proctor, Nogan admits he has been fairly pleased with his own form this season.

But he admits despite the fact City are looking to end a difficult campaign on a high the season as a whole had been hampered by inconsistency.

"I'm pleased to have hit double figures. I've never set myself targets but I always hope to take as many chances as possible," said Nogan

"Personally, it's been okay but it's been a season of fits and starts for the team.

"We started off okay and then fell away, saving our best football for the cup games.

"Obviously, we've had a smaller squad and we've had to bring in a lot of youngsters which isn't ideal when the team is struggling.

"But they've done well, especially the likes of Leigh Wood and Stuart Wise.

"It's just a shame we've not really put a run together.

"There are signs it is coming together a bit now. We are safe now - I never had any doubts about that - and we are looking for mid-table if we win our games in hand.

"That's the objective but we are also looking ahead to next season and hopefully it will be a bit rosier on the horizon.

"I hope so. Speaking to the lads, you get a bit fed up of being down the bottom and grinding the results out.

"We have players who are better than that but we just need to keep them fit and get a bit of consistency.

"Winning at Swansea on Saturday was only the second time this season we have won twice in a row and that is not good enough.

"You have to be consistent and we have blown hot and cold too many times."

Despite City's stuttering campaign, Nogan admitted the fact the Minstermen were not letting the season fade out with a whimper was a positive sign.

"You've got to look at the positives," he reasoned.

"It's been difficult with all that

has been going on off the pitch but we are getting there in that department.

"We have got a lot of youngsters coming through and if we add a few more players in the summer then we have got to be optimistic."

Nogan's century target comes little more than a week after City goalkeeper Alan Fettis celebrated an unbroken century stand of 100 consecutive League appearances for the Minstermen.
