Copmanthorpe exerted pressure in the second half as they looked for an equaliser but it was Panthers who increased their lead, somewhat controversially, 20 minutes from time when the referee decided that a Paul Barron shot, which struck a post, had rebounded over the line.
T&L Selby, with games in hand, could yet snatch the title from Copmanthorpe.
Their latest victory came at Heslington where they enjoyed a 3-2 win. Andy Mills and Jamie Winspear were the Heslington scorers.
