FOUR York City Rowing Club members have been selected to represent the North East of England at the Junior Inter Regional Championships at Nottingham later this month.
The Women's Junior 16 Coxless quad of Charlotte Richer (bow), Camilla Selby, Jenny Addison and Freya Porteous (stroke) successfully came through trials to be picked for Team North East on April 21.
To add weight to the selectors' choice the crew won Women's Junior 16 coxless quad sculls at the Northwich Head of the River race over the 2,300 metre course on Easter Monday, beating favourites Royal Chester RC in eight mins and 52 secs. The Chester crew will represent Team North West at the championships.
Loretta Williams, Regional Coaching and Development Officer, was particularly pleased with the quartet's selection as she is a member of York City RC.
The Women's Junior 18 Coxless quad of Morven Porteous (bow), Sarah Barker, Jenny Addison and Freya Porteous (stroke) came second to a strong Northwich quad who have Great Britain junior experience.
Caroline Jones had a close call when she won Women's Junior 18 single sculls beating Lindholt (Northwich RC) by 0.03 of a second. She teamed up with Natalie Baldry (St Peter's School) to win Women's Junior 18 Double Sculls in 9-13.
