THE runners-up position in division one of the Focus Fireplaces York and District Table Tennis League went to York RI 'B' after their 9-1 win over INL 'A' in which John Hughes and Vic Smith won three each for RI.
Fulford Road WMC 'A' team's chances of finishing second disappeared when they were held 5-5 by York RI 'A' despite John Farmeary winning three.
Richard Moss was unbeaten for Poppleton 'A' but his team went down 7-3 to York RI 'A'.
Three wins from Mike Fenby set Coneysthorpe 'A' up for a 7-3 win over INL 'B' while three wins each from Mick Wadsworth and Jo Suchecki helped Bootham Conservative Club 'A' overcome INL 'B' 7-3.
Coneysthorpe 'A' moved out of the relegation area with a 6-4 win over Poppleton 'A' for whom Richard Moss was unbeaten.
It is still close in division two, but both Poppleton 'B' and York RI 'C' will finish one and two between them.
Sessions 'B' slipped up in their last couple of matches. They only beat bottom team Northern Electric 6-4, although Dave Hough won all three, and lost heavily to Fulford Road WMC 'B' whose Ed Wardman won all three.
At the other end of the table, York RI 'D' and INL 'C' were in a close match which resulted in a 6-4 win for INL 'C'. Martyn Symons had a great night winning all three for INL including a win over John Elliott 21-13 12-21 21-17.
Mike Cooper and Bob Pulleyn were unbeaten for Poppleton 'B' in their 7-3 win over BT 'A'.
Poppleton 'C' clinched the third division title after a 7-3 win over their 'E' team. As has happened all season Chris Armstrong and Jack Kaprian were both unbeaten.
BT 'B' finished in second place after they won beat Poppleton 'D' 6-4, Jim Stevenson winning all three for BT.
Norwich Union 'A' wrapped up division four after a 10-0 win over Poppleton 'F'. York RI 'F' can only finish in second place despite their 10-0 win over York RI 'I'.
INL 'D' finished the season on in winning style, defeating Norwich Union 'B' 7-3 with three wins for Steve Potter. However, the success was marred by the news that team member Peter Lewis had died earlier in the week.
He had been ill for a long time, but never let his illness get the better of him and he played his last match only a few weeks ago. His death will be a big loss to all table tennis players in York.
