MOST of the angling match action in the York area over Easter centred around the three lakes at the Carpvale complex at Moor Monkton.
About 40 anglers contested the third round of the Abu-backed Spring Series on Sunday when venue expert Dave Wright scored his first win after a slow start to the year.
With the bigger fish now starting to move in the warmer water, it was Cyprio Lake that did the damage with Wright winning from peg 18.
After taking three bream and some roach, fishing chopped worm down the track, he switched to a far side approach with corn to add a couple more carp that pushed him clear of the field.
His final tally of 28lb 7oz was too much for the rest. Runner-up was the consistent Steve Bowyer, who was pegged on six where he switched between long pole and feeder.
Baiting with corn, he bagged half a dozen carp, with fish to 7lb, for his 25lb 12oz. Steve Willens had top weight from the Match Pool with a mixed net of carp to 3lb of 19lb 4oz taken on pole and maggot from peg 29.
Others: Stuart Wilson 19-2-0, Gerry Eastwood 18-9-0, Stan Jeffries 18-2-0.
Barbara Jeffries was the lucky resident of peg 18 on Easter Monday. She opted to concentrate on the slabs and to good effect.
Fishing pole at 11 metres with dentrobenas over chopped worm and caster, she netted 8 slabs for her winning 40lb 4oz. Buck Taylor was on peg four, the old peg three prior to the reshaping of the lakes, and chose to target the nearside cover to his right and managed to wrestle out seven fish on corn and meat for his 32lb 10oz.
Others: Stuart Wilson 28-4-0, Paul Jackson 28-0-0, John Ward 20-8-0, Dave Spence 17-4-0.
The Good Friday event went to Grant Walker, who won a peg-to-peg battle with former Team Dobin lynchpin Mick Addinall.
Pegged on 13, Walker bagged 13 carp, switching between near and far side lines, with worm and maggot for his 31lb 10oz. Addinall had nine carp on long pole and corn for his 26lb 4oz. Former Team Dobin man Rob Morris, now fishing under the Acomb Tackle banner, undoubtedly had the day's best catch netting a superb 20lb 10oz all roach bag on pole and caster from peg six. Team mate John Haw was fourth with another silver fish bag of 13lb 14oz.
At the Willows, Saturday's Bob.Co League event drew another healthy entry of 44. Unfortunately, carp did not show such enthusiasm and it was left to the ide, chub and orfe to provide the bulk of some respectable hauls.
Dave Armitage led the way from peg 50 on Goldrush where he took full advantage of some overhanging island cover. Alternating maggot and pellet tight to the island, he had a level 32lb of mainly chub with the odd ide.
Keith Gray was top on Ridge Pool where he used maggot and chopped worm from peg 16 netting ide to 2lb for his 31lb 5oz.
He would have taken the top spot but for the loss of an unseen big fish minutes from the final whistle. The past form of the peg suggests it could have been a catfish.
Phil Austin was in the frame again. The consistent Armley Angling rod netted 24lb of ide, tench and chub on pole and maggot from peg 54.
Others: Steve Pearson 21-14-0, Andy Rymer 20-8-0, Bernard Guy 19-0-0.
