THE Lord Mayor of York, Coun Irene Waudby, signs a book of condolence in York on the same day as the Queen Mother's coffin was being brought to London in preparation for her funeral.
The book, which is in the reception area at the Guildhall, is just one of several to be opened across North Yorkshire.
One was opened at Ryedale House, in Malton, this lunchtime, while others opened yesterday at Selby Abbey and York Minster.
Draped in her personal royal standard, the Queen Mother's coffin was being taken in a black hearse at lunchtime today from the Royal Chapel of All Saints' at Windsor to the Queen's Chapel at St James's Palace in the capital.
The coffin will rest at the chapel until Friday, when it will be taken on a horse-drawn gun carriage in a half-mile procession of pomp and ceremony, involving 1,600 servicemen and women, to Westminster Hall. The coffin will be taken next Tuesday to Westminster Abbey for the funeral service.
