HIGH notes will be the sweet swansong sought by Heworth on Saturday.

The Black and Whites sign off their National Conference League division two campaign at home to Dewsbury Moor (kick-off 2.30pm) - and the desire is to finish the term in style.

The Elm Park Way encounter also offers Heworth the opportunity of going above city rivals York Acorn, whose final game of the season is not until a week on Saturday, away to Millom.

Currently both York clubs are stationed on 26 points after 21 games each, with Acorn's superior goal difference just giving them the edge.

Victory for Heworth would elevate them above their rivals and ratchet up a notch of pressure ahead of Acorn's endgame.

But Heworth's main motivational thrust will be to wrap up the term in style.

Said club spokesman Ken Sykes: "We are looking to end the season on a high note.

"Without being too complacent we should beat Dewsbury, but we are looking also to turn in a decent performance and finish off in some sort of style."

Heworth's form is buoyant. En route to Saturday's curtain coming down the Villagers have won three out of four successive away games, the latest being the 26-14 downing of Sheffield Hillsborough Hawks.

At least four key players who missed that clash could be back for the visit of Dewsbury. Props Jason Gatus (hamstring) and Lee Clarke (hip), plus centre Nikki Wilson (back) and full-back Dave Carling (family illness) are all in the reckoning for a return.

However, back row forward Sam Clarke is definitely out after damaging ankle ligaments against the Hawks.

While the Acorn senior side are minus a fixture Acorn 'A' entertain Castleford Panthers 'A' in the CMS Yorkshire League division three, where they still hope to gate-crash a top four play-off spot.

Realistically they would need to win their remaining five games and hope for one or two of their rivals to slip up to make the play-offs, but several key players such as full back John Tattersfield and teenage prop forward Ben Henson are presently in vibrant form.

Coupled with the nous of experienced performers such as second rower Alex Benn and scrum-half Phil Galloway, a good result is a definite possibility.

Neither New Earswick All Blacks nor Heworth 'A' have Yorkshire League games this weekend. York Groves' Pennine League division four game against Hillsborough Hawks on Saturday has been switched to Huntington Stadium, kick-off 2.30pm.
