Cawood Bowls Club celebrate completion of their new premises with a wine and cheese party on Friday, April 12.

The new clubhouse at Cawood Playing Fields opened last season but during the winter final work has been completed, including access for disabled visitors and new paving. The work has been done with the help of grants from Selby District Council, the Coalfield Regeneration Fund and latterly Awards For All.

The club run men's and ladies teams in Selby League and have a mixed team in York League. There are about 40 members, two thirds of whom are players.

The party, which starts at 7pm, is open to all interested in bowls. "We welcome new members and are always looking for lady players in particular," said club secretary Joan Pool.

"As well as playing in three leagues we have social evening events where the atmosphere is less daunting for beginners. We also play friendly matches with other clubs.

"We have an attractive green and the new clubhouse has a large paved area for sitting out on pleasant evenings. There is a large garden area under construction and we would appreciate help with this."

There is also a yoga club at the bowls club on Friday afternoons and this will continue to meet through the summer.
