York Rugby Union Club Under 14s' first half power play of 33 points without reply set the foundations for a comfortable 38-19 win over neighbours Selby.

Selby were on the back foot straight from the kick off with York's powerful pack driving forward at every opportunity.

York's first points came from a try by second row Oliver Bevis who finished off several phases of York possession. Alex Rogers added the conversion.

Following an infringement by the Selby forwards ten metres from their own line, York executed a well-rehearsed tap penalty move. Scrum half Rogers popped a pass to prop Chris Woolley arriving at pace and he crashed over the line unopposed. Rogers converted to put York ahead by 14 points.

York's third score was also straight from the training ground.

At a lineout on the 22 metre line hooker Tom Bewick threw flat to Matthew Turp at number two. His clean catch was secured by Woolley.

At the call the prop slipped a pass to scrum half Rogers who then off-loaded to Bewick and he scythed through a static Selby defence to score by the posts. Rogers added the extras.

Two more tries before half time virtually sealed the game for York. Bewick grabbed his second try as his forward team-mates drove him across the line and this was followed on the stroke of half-time by a try from winger Steven Greenwood who finished off a flowing handling move by the York backs. Rogers added one conversion.

York eased off the gas in the opening exchanges of the second half and lost their momentum as substitutions were made and positions switched.

Selby come more into the game and the hosts' gritty determination was rewarded with a converted try to reduce the arrears.

York increased their lead when substitute scrum-half Simon White robbed his opposite number of the ball and bravely held up the ball in the tackle on the Selby line before Bewick gratefully took the ball off him to complete his hat-trick.

Selby stuck to their task and added two tries and conversion to make the final score look more respectable but York continued to look capable of scoring with centre Elliott Barron going close on two occasions.

Meanwhile, York RI Under 15s travelled across the city to play local rivals York and lost the game after a sporting gesture.

RI agreed to play with 13 players as York were unable to muster a full team.

Two tries in five minutes by Ollie Carr, one converted by Nick Heseltine, gave York a 12-0 victory.

Despite pressing for a score RI's re-shuffled team lacked adhesion and several opportunities were spurned.
