A MAN died when he was hit by a train on the East Coast Main Line today.
Emergency services were called to Northallerton railway station, shortly after 6am this morning, after receiving reports of a body on the track.
When they arrived, they found the decapitated body of a man, lying close to one of the station's platforms.
The man's identity has not yet been discovered.
A North Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were given the news by Railtrack control.
"This incident happened just north of the northbound platform. The patient had been decapitated. Obviously he had been hit by a train."
