MANY people will welcome the return of the York Mystery Plays to the city streets. The 2002 production will be presented by York's historic guilds in the open air, as was always intended.
The Theatre Royal has been an excellent host to the four-yearly cycle of the plays. And the unique performance in York Minster was a memorable way to mark the Millennium.
But the Mystery Plays are ancient street theatre, created to bring the gospel to the people. Weather permitting, this year's performances should be a midsummer treat.
