I WRITE in utter despair as yet further roadworks are started in York.

Not only do we have to contend each day with the extensive work on the A64 until October but now we have further delays on the A1237 for seven weeks due to further work.

I cannot believe that this is being started at the same time - is there no communication or is it just felt that the York people are so despondent that further work will make no difference?

And what gift do we have from the council to compensate us for this further inconvenience? An eight per cent increase in council tax of course!

...JUST when we are getting used to the congestion on the A1237 outer ring road, and allowing extra time to get to work, those would-be planners put a jinx on it all.

Work has now begun on the Moor Lane junction with the A1237 to widen the access into and out of Moor Lane. I know the slip road was widened into Moor Lane just a couple of years ago and now it is being done again, but this time more work will be done to widen the exit also.

It amazes me that this wasn't done last time.Do the council enjoy doing the same job over again? It would seem so.

But why do it now that the A64 is in chaos? Surely this work, despite the need for it to be done, could have waited until the A64 was finished.

It seems someone sits behind a desk, gets a flash of inspiration and implements it without thought for any consequences.
