MARTIN Jarred obviously did not do his homework on Martin Bell (York City are in for one hell of a ride, March 15). According to Mr Jarred - "Bell hung up his famous white suit and didn't contest the General Election last year."
Oh, yes he did!
Martin Bell stood for Brentwood and Ongar as an Independent and was beaten into second place by Eric Pickles (Conservative).
Good going in a field of eight candidates, but not good enough.
