DISGRACEFULLY, Liberal councillors in York have sought to ensure the Tenneco development in Manor Lane will not be provided with retail facilities. When complete, there will be more than 600 new houses without a shop among them.
Elderly and disabled people will not have their needs met and will have to rely on regular help from others. The outcome will be hundreds of unnecessary car journeys along narrow streets to reach the nearest shops at Clifton Moor, Eastholme Drive and Shipton Road.
How does this meet the council's "aspiration" to give priority to pedestrians and cyclists? Think again and consider people's needs. D Lewis,
Shipton Road, York.
