SEVEN members of York Under 14s are gunning for success with North Yorkshire at two special rugby festivals.
Tom Bewick (hooker), Matt Turp (back-row), John Bird (prop), Alex Rogers scrum-half), Oliver Bevis lock), Matthew Rowson (full-back) and Elliott Barron have all been named as part of a 25-strong squad which will face South, West, East and Central Yorkshire tomorrow and then again in April.
The boys will also take part in a festival in Nottingham from March 27-29 with York RFU, with the finalists getting to play at Twickenham as a curtain-raiser to the Barbarians match in May.
YORK RI's Josh Binns has showed junior rugby continues to flourish at New Lane.
The 15-year-old flanker has been included in the Yorkshire Under 15s squad for their clash against Cheshire tomorrow.
The Manor School pupil is the first player from the juniors from the club to gain White Rose honours since the reformation of the youth section.
However, full-back Thomas Heslop and scrum-half Elliott Richardson have been in the North Yorkshire U15s side this season.
The club, who do have strong links with Manor, have now started to attract pupils from a cross-section of the area's schools.
YOUNG York lock Dan Greenwood made an immediate impact as he helped a Yorkshire Youth XV beat a Wales Development U17s XV 22-15 at Driffield.
Despite starting the match as a replacement, Greenwood came off the bench for the second half and marked his appearance with a try.
Greenwood snaffled the ball at the front of a line out and sprinted 20 metres to open the second-half scoring.
Yorkshire's other tries came from Simon Worrall, Joe Bennett and Craig Deakin, while Andrew Silley found the target with a penalty.
The Yorkshire Youth side was a mixture of school and club-based players.
