A MAN was fighting for his life in hospital today after he was in collision with a car in the centre of York.
Police are appealing for information from anyone who may have witnessed the incident, at about 11pm in Bridge Street, near its junction with North Street.
A police spokesman said: "He was walking in the road towards Micklegate when he stepped into the path of a white Mondeo travelling in the opposite direction towards Coney Street."
The man, said to be aged about 30 and from the Goole area, suffered serious head injuries and was taken to York District Hospital.
Police said the car was a private hire vehicle driven by David Turnbull, from Easingwold.
