Acomb club duo Mick Frampton and Gerald Mackenzie knocked out the defending champions to reach the final of York Conservative clubs' Turnbull-Mazda Snooker Pairs Competition.

They won their semi-final 2-1 against Heworth duo Neil Wood and Clive Whyte, who have won the competition for the last two years and four times in five years.

Wood made a 30 break as he and Whyte won the first frame of their semi-final. Mackenzie cleared the last three colours to steal to second frame and then made two 25 breaks in the next frame to clinch victory.

In the final at Heworth club on Monday, April 15, Frampton and Mackenzie will play Colin Robinson and Ken Taylor (Bootham), who beat Peter and Richard Stroughair 2-0 in the second semi-final.

Robinson kept Richard Stroughair short of chances during both frames and Taylor did most of the scoring.

Fulford 'A' scored a surprise 4-3 home win over Acomb 'A' to reach the final of York Conservative clubs' Team Snooker Cup, sponsored by Kutters and Shannons.

Acomb 'A' were full of confidence going into the semi-final having beaten Fulford 'A' 6-1 and 5-2 in the league, but Fulford got their revenge.

Brian Bickerstaff won the first frame for Fulford, but wins by Paul Clark and Gerald Mackenzie put Acomb 2-1 ahead. Simon England, Wayne Pulleston and Richard Stroughair (38 break) took the next three frames to clinch the match for Fulford. Ian Gillies (22 break) won the last frame for Acomb.

Heworth 'A' beat Bootham 'A' 4-0 in the second semi-final with wins by Clive Whyte (37 break), Jason Milner, Steve Burdett and Neil Wood (30 break).

The final is at Acomb club on Wednesday, April 17.

York Conservative clubs' Carlsberg-Tetley Snooker League leaders Heworth 'A' continued their unbeaten run with a 6-1 win over Fulford 'B'. John Anderson, Richie Burdett (27 break), Steve Burdett, Jason Milner, Clive Whyte and Neil Wood (34 and 46 breaks) won for Heworth. Arthur Peeden replied for Fulford.

Bootham 'A' beat bottom-placed Acomb 'B' 6-1 but made no inroads into Heworth's ten point lead. Bootham's winners were John Darley, Mark Darley (27 unfinished break), Peter Mills (20 break), Don Pringle, Colin Robinson and Ken Taylor. John Hutchinson replied for Acomb.

Acomb 'A' moved into third place with a 7-0 whitewash of Bootham 'B' helped by three black ball successes. The winning team was Paul Clark, Mick Frampton, Paul Frampton, Ian Gillies, Richard Harris, Gerald Mackenzie and Keith Myers.

Bootham 'B' drop to fourth place but have an eight point lead in the John Smith's 'B' team competition.

Heworth 'B' made it four wins in a row with a 4-3 victory over Fulford 'A'. Wayne Pulleston won the first frame for Fulford but Mike Braithwaite, Huw Faircliffe and John Sherlock put Heworth 3-1 in front.

Phil Oliver put Fulford back in the match only to see Colin Richardson take the next frame and the match for Heworth. Richard Stroughair won the last frame for Fulford.

Bootham made the most of home advantage to crush challengers Acomb 6-1 in York Conservative clubs' Slater Cup Pairs Snooker League and take a nine point lead at the top of the table with only two matches left.

Bootham won the first five frames, two black ball successes, before Acomb gained a consolation point.

Fulford gained only their second win of the season in defeating Heworth 4-3. Fulford won the first two frames but Heworth hit back to lead 3-2 with a 14 point aggregate advantage helped by two black ball successes. Fulford took the last frame by a 53 point margin to win the match.

York Conservative clubs' Faber Shields Billiards League leaders Acomb suffered a surprise 4-3 defeat to Bootham 'B', who had lost their three previous matches against Acomb this season. It was only the second defeat for Acomb this campaign.

Tom Bamford, Chris Granger and George Long won the first three games for Bootham and built a 123 point lead in the aggregate scores. Mick Frampton, Keith Myers and Trevor Ventress replied for Acomb but were unable to overturn the aggregate.

Second-placed Bootham 'A' lost 6-1 at Fulford. John Darley won the first point for Bootham but Brian Bickerstaff, Roger Gibson, Colin Neal, Alan Reed and Richard Stroughair (27 and 33 breaks), who had a revenge win over Ken Taylor (31 break), gave Fulford easy aggregate success.

Bootham 'A' trail Acomb by ten points with only two matches to play.

Mick Frampton and Trevor Ventress (both Acomb) have taken over as joint leaders in the Cameo Engraving Player of the Year billiards competition with eight wins from nine games.
