THE Sunflower Masquerade Ball in aid of St Leonard's Hospice is bringing a touch of Venetian festivity to York.
Guests are asked to wear masks and some are already getting into the spirit of things.
The ball takes place at York Racecourse in the Knavesmire Stand on May 25 and promises to be a major fundraiser for York's hospice. The £65 tickets are nearly sold out and there is a range of prizes to be won on the night.
Fantasy World, in Fulford Road, is lending harlequin costumes and getting a stock of many coloured and exotic masks for guests to purchase for the occasion.
Karen Russell, a member of the organising committee, said: "Masks lend an air of mystery and it should be fun identifying people."
There will be the prize draw for "wicked weekends" sponsored by Superbreak Mini-Holidays.
Helen Williams, chairwoman of the organising committee, said: "We are still looking for more restaurants or tourist venues to offer prizes and any items for the tombola to help us raise a magnificent sum on the night." For tickets, contact the hotline on 01132 986 159. Prizes and offers of prizes can be made to the hospice fundraising centre on 01904 781576.
