York RI Cavaliers 'A' missed the opportunity to secure the York Chess League division one title when they surprisingly lost 3-2 to Minster Inn.
This leaves them on 22 points and 57 board points with one game remaining against Shepherds.
York University maintained the pressure with a comfortable win over Kings by 4-2. This leaves University in second place with 21 points and 53 board points.
If Cavaliers 'A' win or draw their final match they will
win the league. Unfortunately no further details are available on these two important matches.
Lady Anne Middleton secured third place with a 4-1 win over Whippersnappers with wins
from Tim Turner, Dave Cawston and Laurence Cornhill.
Three of the juniors can be very pleased with their draws, Patrick Gower against Tony Slinger, Fahad
Yousif against Jon Griffith, and C Thompson against Chris Sommerville.
Shepherds kept themselves in fourth place with a 5-1 win
against Cavaliers 'B' and are on
14 points with one game remaining. Minster Inn, however, are only a point behind and have three games left.
In division two, Lady Anne Middleton 2 beat More Whipps by 4-1 to remain top of the table.
They had wins from Colin Snowball, Steve Cooper, Sam
Watson and one by default and a draw between Neville
Pearce and Mark Verity. The highlight for More Whipps
was Jonathan Burr's win on board six.
Shepherds 2 kept up the pressure on LAM2 with a 4-2 win over Conquerors with wins from
Herbert Lockwood, Bob Maltby, Ian Till and Stuart
Acton. Richard Hardy and Chris Vause won for Conquerors.
Don Glasgow, who played for both Shepherds teams for many years as well as being a regular in the York Club Championship and Summer Tournaments, has died.
He was a tenacious player always difficult to beat and he played exceptionally well against stronger players with his very solid style. He was a gentleman at the board and off it.
