Members of the York Philharmonic Male Voice Choir have scooped a top singing prize after revealing they hold a weekly impromptu sing-along in the pub. The group, which was formed 77 years ago, came first in the sacred section at the annual Eskdale male voice choir festival, near Whitby.
They were also placed second in the choir recital section and third in the overall choir section.
Choir members descend on The Snickleway pub, in Goodramgate, to whet their whistle after weekly rehearsals at St William's College.
Regulars and passing tourists are encouraged to join in an impromptu sing-along which has included everything from opera classic Nessun Dorma to When The Saints Go Marching In.
Secretary Jim Waggott said: "Drinking beer must be doing some good!
"We will be celebrating after practice."
