YORK residents have been invited to a palace open day to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
The Archbishop of York's Palace, at Bishopthorpe, will be open to the public on June 3. People will be able to take a guided tour of the palace and stroll around the grounds.
There will be exhibitions of coronation memorabilia, children's art, poetry and floral displays. Musical entertainment and a refreshment marquee selling cream teas and homemade cakes will also be available.
The open day is part of an extensive programme of Jubilee events organised by the Bishopthorpe Jubilee Committee, to raise funds for the Bishopthorpe
Millennium Trust.
A fete will be held on Saturday, June 1, on the sports ground at Ferry Lane. There will be stalls, a sports day and a barbecue. On Sunday afternoon, a street party for children, the elderly and disabled in Main Street, will be entertained by a brass band and a jazz band.
In the evening on Sunday, June 2, a fashion parade of styles from the last 50 years will be held in a marquee at the rear of The Marcia Inn.
The committee has also organised a Golden Jubilee Ball, on June 3. The ball, in the marquee at the rear of The Marcia Inn, will have live entertainment, a buffet supper and a charity auction.
