LIZZIE Armitage, of Stamford Bridge Wado Kai Karate Club, won the junior fighting section of the WIKF National Championships at Fleet, Hampshire.
It was the first time the club had entered a competition and were delighted that Armitage, from Sheriff Hutton, brought home the 13 to 15 years kumite title.
In the kata event, Armitage finished mid-table.
The club's other entrant, Steve Roebuck of Elvington, was eliminated in the first rounds of the adult kumite.
Stamford Bridge Wado Kai train every Wednesday and Thursday evening from 7pm at Stamford Bridge Primary School.
