A thousand homes in York lost their power supply yesterday afternoon because of a fault in an underground cable. The electricity supply to homes in Dringhouses and Woodthorpe went off at 1.20pm. A spokeswoman for Northern Electric said 220 customers had their power supply restored at 2.30pm, the rest at 3.15pm.
She said: "This was due to a fault in an underground cable and engineers are still investigating the cause."
