MICK Phythian's well-founded concern over the potential loss of green belt land for unnecessary development is timely (March 6), but it is not only peripheral spaces which are under threat. Every pocket of potentially developable land within the built-up area of the city is targeted for up-market luxury apartments.
Land Securities' proposals for Hungate indicate an additional 600 housing units, many for families, with not a green space in sight.
This makes our proposals for a public park on the Castle site even more relevant.
The public inquiry will resume in May. There is still time for letters of concern to be sent in to the Planning Inspectorate and for requests to speak at the inquiry to be made. Reject Coppergate Riverside - vote for our park!
