A HEROIC New York firefighter who led dozens of people to safety from one of the stricken World Trade Centre towers on September 11 will visit York next month.
Richard Picciotto, battalion commander with the New York Fire Department, bravely put his own life at stake to lead a rescue operation up the first tower
He has now written a book about his experiences - Last Man Down - and will be visiting Borders Books, in Davygate, on April 10, from 7pm, to give a talk and sign copies.
York firefighters are also hoping to meet Mr Picciotto and present him with a cheque raised during a fundraising campaign following the September 11 disaster.
Border's spokeswoman Shirley Swain said: "We're delighted to have Richard here.
"It's an amazing story."
