YORK Wasps have been dealt a blow with the news Jonny Liddell is suspended for Sunday's Northern Ford Premiership clash with Chorley Lynx.
The in-form stand-off received a one-match ban and £75 fine at last night's league disciplinary hearing following his sending off against Hunslet Hawks ten days ago.
The 19-year-old York-born former Leeds Rhinos player was accused of kneeing an opponent, resulting in retaliation and a fight involving other players from both sides.
Hunslet's Lee Bargate, who was also sent off for retaliation, received the same punishment at last night's hearing.
Wasps chief executive Ann Garvey said: "We're very disappointed that Jon will be out against Chorley but on reflection we have got to be grateful that the ban was not longer.
"Obviously he's very disappointed and I think we have to say it was completely out of character. We don't think it was intentional but the Rugby League board saw it differently.
"However, we've got to accept the punishment and take it on the chin."
