FRIENDS of a man killed in the Selby rail crash are hoping to ring the cash till to raise funds for a permanent monument to his memory.
Members of the St Wilfrid's bell ringers, in York, are looking to find £3,000 to install a stained glass window to remember Clive Vidgen.
Clive, a keen bell ringer and member of the group, was one of the ten men who lost their lives at Great Heck, on February 28, 2001.
Well-liked and respected, the bell ringers want to put up the window at the Duncombe Place church as a fitting tribute to Mr Vidgen.
They have already unveiled a plaque dedicated to Clive's memory.
Now group member Trevor Elliott is appealing to businesses and interested groups to help their new cause. He said: "Clive worked for the rail industry, but he was also a member of our group.
"We want to get together some money to place a stained-glass window, a memorial window, in the ringing chamber.
"We think this kind of memorial would be a lasting mark of respect.
"There is another aspect to it. Whenever Clive came ringing and the sun was coming up in the morning, it always came through the window where we are planning to place the memorial.
"He would comment on how good it would look if there was some coloured glass. This will be our special tribute to Clive."
